In schools, Christmas is a magical time of the year. Activities range from putting up decorations, the giving of Christmas cards and enjoying a special turkey dinner with friends in the canteen. Oh, and we mustn't forget to mention the highlight of the school year for many in the school community: the Christmas play. WHAT IS CHRISTMAS?

Christmas is celebrated by millions of people worldwide to mark the birth of Jesus. Jesus was born in a humble stable surrounded by farm animals. His first visitors were shepherds alerted to the birth by angels, and this was followed by the arrival of the Three Kings carrying gifts guided by the Star of Bethlehem.

WHEN IS CHRISTMAS?

Christmas Day is on 25th December for most people, but in places like Russia it's celebrated on 7th January.

In Britain, the Christmas tree became a popular decoration in the nineteenth century after being introduced from Germany by Queen Victoria's husband, Albert.

CHRISTMAS PRESENTS

Christmas is a time when families are together and gifts are exchanged.

In most countries, presents are delivered to good children by Santa. However, in some other countries Baby Jesus, or the Three Kings deliver the gifts.

Also, some people say that Santa has a part time job during the holiday season delivering Coca-Cola, but Mrs Santa and the elves strongly deny this. Rudolf was unavailable for comment.
